Just quick update on a recent rumor that’s been making the rounds:
For some time, one of the more popular ideas about The Dark Knight Rises was that Robin Williams would be playing Dr. Hugo Strange, a creepy-looking bald scientist dude. Then I think the story switched to Tom Hardy playing him or something weird like that. Anyway, these rumors have long since been dismissed as complete bullshit, but now it seems they're back for another round.
Told you he was creepy.
On the 14th, My Entertainment World (careful with that link – their layout will make your eyes bleed) reported a supposed plot description of the movie, which read:
“As Batman deals with his new status as a wanted vigilante, Dr. Hugo Strange, a villainous psychiatrist, concocts a plan to destroy him and become the new Batman.”
Now, this sounds fishy at best (and like utter crap at worst), but it’s worth noting simply because it hasn’t been denied yet. Still, I think it’s more likely that Nolan and his team haven’t bothered to deny it simply because it’s so ridiculous that they thought a denial wasn’t necessary. It also seems likely that My Entertainment World simply mixed The Dark Knight Rises and upcoming video game Arkham City. More importantly, it seems like The Dark Knight Rises already has plenty of villains. We’ve already got Bane and Catwoman (who might not be a villain, per se, but whatever) confirmed, and there are still rumors of Talia al Ghul and the League of Shadows and all that. The last thing we need is for this movie to suffer from villain overload, à la Spiderman 3… Really, though, I would be shocked if there was actually any truth to this story.
